"I want the audience to feel the heat radiating off the pavement.  I want them to feel the dirt underneath the fingernails and I want them to question where reality ends and dreams begin."

"Backroads" is a unique film that required a unique look.  To achieve the gritty and hot yet dream-like aesthetic that the director sought, the post-production team of Mark Scofield (designer / editor) and David Strohl (still photographer / colorist) created a process using Photoshop and After Effects to digitally enhance the already rich images captured by director of photography PJ Raval.  The result is striking:

The effect is even more impressive in motion, where the grit and grain of a true "film-like" look is brought out.  To see some of Mark and David's other work, visity their web sites: Scofield.tv and Davidstrohl.net.  They are both available for other independent work, both collaboratively and independently.
