All work and no play

 DSC_0265.jpg

The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind, as this time of year always seems to be.  I have several journal entries on the backburner that I want to write but don't want to do so in a rush.  So this is just a small update on what I'm working on and what I have coming up soon.

  • It's the beginning of the swim team season, so I'm spending a lot of my day either in the water and sun teaching or in the office returning phone calls and e-mails.  It's the busiest time of year where I'm at work early in the morning and late in the evening.  I do most of my film work in the middle of the day, when I'm generally tired and unfocussed.  Working with young kids can be inspiring and exhausting.  My patience isn't what it used to be, and sometimes I worry my age is catching up to me.  Says the 26 year-old.  Still, it's always rewarding in the end.

  • I'm working on an application for TFPF (Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund) for the KANSAS adaptation.  Every year the grant gives away more money and every year the competition makes it tougher to receive funding.  But it's a good thing for me to make myself do, if for no other reason than it forces me to complete the budget and forge through compiling a lot of other materials that will come in handy in fundraising and promoting the film when it's completed.  The postmark deadline is June 1st, so I still have a lot of work to do.

  • Dan and I won the shuffleboard tournament last night (my one weekly recreational activity it seems).  Go us.  Dan is a great friend (a fellow ND alum) and I will miss him dearly if and when he does indeed leave Austin.

  • Speaking of moving away, my good friend Michael will be attending graduate school in St. Louis in the fall.  Congratulations are in order for him.  He's never lived outside of Austin, so it will undoubtedly be a great experience for him.  But we'll all miss him, and Austin will also be missing his girlfriend Krysti, one of the hardest working film crew gals in town.  By the time they leave Brett will almost be back in town, as he has departed for Colorado for the summer (one of my entries-to-be discusses his last night in town).

  • All the work (and weddings I've been attending) has prevented me from seeing any films as well.  Alli never lets me miss DANCING WITH THE STARS, though, and the latest episode of THE SOPRANOS was amazing.  We all knew something would happen between Tony and Christopher, though I don't think anyone saw it unfolding the way it did.  Now Tony's guilt will be the springboard into the series' finale... or will it?

  • SWERVE update: Brett and I cut the original version down to 16 mintues a couple weeks ago before he left for Colorado.  Dave and I have discussed the next stage.

so the mistreated director over here makes it seem like I tie him to the couch and FORCE him to watch "Dancing with the Stars" when in fact the watching part is optional and he partakes AND enjoys the show all of his own accord. trying to pick up new dance moves? watching hot chicks in skimpy costumes? steve sanders fan? we'll never know why but on monday nights you know where to find us.... at least for another week.
