I've begun taking advantage of the free trial offering of a fantastic new program called BENTO from the publishers of filemaker. It basically makes making databases incredibly easy and, dare I say, a little bit fun. I've been using it to keep track of festival deadlines, inventory and sales, purchases etc. The most fun project, though, has been the Movie Database, where I'm making a record of every film I've watched. I keep track of the title, director, year, and other common info, but also rate the film, whether I want to add the film to my own collection, and of course any notes I have about it. Right now I'm still going through my netflix history and own DVD collection, but it will gradually expand as I find time to work on it. I'm eventually going to create a similar database for books. If you want to get things organized, I definitely suggest checking out the software, which is available for free use until mid February. It does require Leopard, however, as it utilizes a lot of the new features in the latest mac operating system.
